2009 Lifetime Achievement Award Recipients
Brenda Phillips, Theatre Professional
Brenda is an accomplished actress who has performed all over Portland including her upcoming performance at Artists Repertory Theatre in Distracted and for one of Portland’s longest running shows Menopause the Musical. She was seen most recently at the IFCC in a new play called Perfection. Not only did she perform but she directed this powerful piece and shepherded a new producer/playwright through the production process. She has had an impact on hundreds, if not thousands, of lives by being an arts educator for years including at the IFCC and at Ockley Green down the road. That is what is so special about Brenda, not only does she grace our stages with her talent, she is always finding ways to reach out and support the community.
Philemon Reid, Visual Artist
Philemon’s work graces many of IFCC’s walls. The dance studio in particular includes some of his early work and a rare pointillist piece. As seen in his other work he is clearly drawn to cubism and Picasso but has his own unique style heavily influenced by his love of music. His work will become poster art for IFCC’s upcoming production of “Sherman” a new jazz opera by Philemon’s friend and ours, musician Thara Memory. Like Thara, Philemon is part of an artistic movement that took hold in the 1970’s that laid the foundation for Portland’s creative identity today.
