An Overview of 2009/2010 Parks and Recreation Budget Planning
For a review of the budget process to date, please visit the Budget 2009–2010 page at www.portlandparks.org.
The PP&R budget website has been refreshed and updated to include all current news. The links below will take you directly to the areas indicated.
• The bureau’s proposed budget for FY 2009–2010 [Note: this file is 5.2 MB], which was submitted to Council February 5th.
• Questions are the responses from PP&R Managers to the inquiries at the Community Budget Meeting on January 10th and also include any new questions or comments received since that meeting.
• The budget forecast is even worse than the Office of Management and Finance originally projected. Due to reductions in citywide revenues THIS year (08–09), PP&R was directed by council to cut their budget now (March -09). By raising fees, PP&R can replace the revenue lost from the citywide budget cuts. Raising fees will prevent cuts to services. These are the proposed “mid-year reductions”: submitted by PP&R in response to Council’s request.
What’s New
• Later this month, City Council will hold the following public meetings to receive comments and questions from the public on the requested FY 2009–1010 budgets.
• February 19 – St. Johns Community Center, 8427 N. Central St., 6:00–8:30pm
• February 21 – Floyd Light Middle School, 10800 SE Washington St., 9:30am-noon
• February 24 – Multnomah Arts Center, 7688 SW Capital Hwy, 6:00–8:30pm
• City Council must weigh the best thinking from City staff and the community to balance the City’s budget. This process will take about two months with the Mayor’s Proposed Budget released in mid-April.
• Finally, while we’re optimistic that the bureau has achieved the directives set by City Council, we also know that this is still early in what is proving to be a long, difficult process. The volatile economic climate we are in is unprecedented in our times. We continue to be committed to keeping you informed through every step of this process.
