Everybody thinks they have problems and most know they do but when you’re a Church Girl there’s certain things you don’t do. When you’re the Pastor’s daughter, or honor roll student, good girl and serving in the church, you don’t do dirt and get caught. You don’t embarrass your parents and undo all the bragging they’ve done over the past years.

It’s Senior Year and five young ladies want nothing more than to escape the stereotypes and truths of being a Church Girl. But first they must get through the Youth Explosion, friendships and graduation without their secrets exploding in their face.

A musical about teen-age church girls who go through the same universal issues other girls go through, exploring who they are and want to be and the standards they choose to or not to live by.

World Stage Theatre is a non-conventional theatre company designed to integrate the academic, social and personal needs of youth and young adults in the Portland Metropolitan area by using the apparatus of performing arts to promote social awareness and academic success.

Founded by Shalanda Sims and formed in April 2006 in response to the under-representation of African-American youth, culture and heritage in the theater community, World Stage Theatre produced it’s First Annual Black History Month Celebration in 2007 and has had the awesome opportunity of working with hundreds of youth through workshops, live performances, camps and classroom settings that have proven to increase their understanding of Language Arts and History, particularly African-American History.

Our mission is to encourage youth and young adults to approach life with discipline, curiosity, courage and confidence. To help them make positive decisions for the betterment of their personal and community life by introducing them to the world around them. Through literature exploration and
traveling experiences, World Stage Theatre endeavors to give students the tools to communicate and the platform on which to use them.

Thank You

Over 270 of you got delirious with us, on Saturday Night, in our almost one hundred year old firehouse and on the Patton Park Plaza . We danced, enjoyed good food, got our ‘homecoming pictures’ taken by Mishima Photography, and shared stories in the gallery. We inaugurated our new sculptural marquee/message center. We welcomed back old friends, and made new ones. Thank you to our presenting sponsors Wells Fargo, TriMet and Portland Parks and Recreation . Thank you to our volunteers, who went above and beyond the call of duty, serving food, wine and beer and cleaning up our messes. And to our Board of Directors who sold drawing tickets, greeted guests and danced till last call. A shout out to our entertainment – Sneakin Out, Jennifer Lanier, Melao de Cuba, Mark Durrow, Mark Hayes, Eleanor O’Brien, Dan Trujillo, Andrea White, DJ Funky Surround, and the Crazy 8’s. And finally, a special thank you to our hosts for the evening – Commissioner Charles Jordan, Susan Fatheree-Goodson, Michelle Harper and Mayor Elect Sam Adams, without your vision, hard work and advocacy, over the years, IFCC would not be here. Stay tuned for pictures of the event, brought to you by Jeff Amram Photography And we’ll see you at our Last Thursday opening of WORD.
