“He moves with the easy grace of a man attuned to the rhythmic impulse that links music and poetry.”—The New York Times

Resurrection is the story of six interconnected black males ages 10–60: a child scientist, a young man from the projects on his way to college, an ex-convict, a corporate executive, a health food store owner, and the bishop of a megachurch—who all experience an unexpected phenomenon on the same evening that changes their lives forever. As they tell their stories, they unite individually and collectively over issues of physical, spiritual, and mental health, poverty, absent fathers, incarceration, addiction, relationships, and education. Featuring Beaty’s unique blend of music, poetry, comedy, and drama, Resurrection is an urgent, timely story of possibility and hope.

Daniel Beaty is an award-winning actor, singer, writer, composer and poet. His critically acclaimed solo play Emergence-See!, directed by Kenny Leon, ran off-Broadway to a sold-out, extended run at The Public Theater in the fall of 2006. And for 2 nights at the IFCC Theatre February of this year. For this production, he received the 2007 Obie Award for Excellence in Off-Broadway Theater for Writing and Performing and the 2007 AUDELCO Award for Solo Performance. New York Magazine awarded him a 2006 Culture Award for Best in Theater. He is the recipient of the 2007 Scotsman Fringe First Award for the best new writer at the Edinburgh Festival, and in November 2007, he was presented with a Lamplighter Award from the Black Leadership Forum in Washington, DC.
