IFCC is proud to welcome back it’s New Faces Series which supports the development of new plays and performances that celebrate diversity of human experiences by showcasing the rich fabric of cultures, ethnicities and histories within our community. We catalyze the growth and transformation of emerging and experienced artists as well as audiences by challenging them with bold material that awakens new ideas, promotes cultural awareness, and presents opportunities to learn from one another.

The IFCC Leadership Team has selected two plays by local writers for workshop development with professional actors. Public readings will be presented followed by a moderated discussion.

Perfection by Helen Hill
Directed by Lorraine Bahr, Facilitated by Adrienne Flagg
In 2002 Gov. John Kitzhaber issued a formal apology for the state’s forcible sterilization of at least 2,650 people, deemed “feeble-minded” or “unfit” through 1971. This event spurred Helen to delve into this complicated topic through a fictional African American named Anna May Dobbs, who is first an inmate, then a worker, at a state mental hospital where many of these surgeries took place.
Sunday April 13, 7:00pm

Beyond Tears by David Tufenkian
Directed and Facilitated by Kimberly Howard
Sitting on a bus in Delphi Greece, listening to jazz, David begins to sob. These tears lead him into the ancestral pain of the Armenian genocide. From this experience came “Tears at Delphi” a play created by David and fourteen friends through a collaborative playwriting process. “Beyond Tears” is the next stage of this journey, a staged reading, based on a two-day workshop exploration with professional actors.
Monday April 14, 7:00pm

Crazy 8’s to Perform at IFCC Homecoming

Imagine being in charge of entertainment for your homecoming dance in 1982. You would probably have to get some lame DJ or maybe that guy who used to be a senior like three times and now he has a band. OK, that’s the nightmare now imagine the dream. You would want a band that was hot. All around hot. Great music that was jumpin’ with lots of horns and guitars and like, two drummers. And they were so hot the girls would go crazy but the band was cool enough that even the guys would be like, dude… they rock! That dream is now a reality! Portland’s hottest band from the 80’s is playing your homecoming! I just booked the Crazy 8’s!!! (insert fan scream here and read more . . .)
