KO&Co.‘s dance show ExpecTUtion literally reshapes the expected base of a flat dance floor to reexamine our expections. Ko&Co.‘s ensemble of ten dancers blend modern dance, post modern ballet, improvisation, acrobatics and capoeira on a stage designed by Carly Boynton and built by Portland carpenters. The stage will be made up of segments of conves and concave curves to create a unique terrain including a 12-foot gulley, intersecting deep slopes, and an open arch.
Ko&Co. delves into how our expectations, especially those we do not notice, shape our actions, both personal and communal. In finding the threads of ExpecTUtion, KO&Co. dancers will integrate physical responses to the expectation we create based on the defined parameters of the stage space. This will be the primary impetus for individual movement choices, relating to other dancers, and how we arch the work itself. By gorging expecations, KO&Co. wants to both illuminate and reconfigure the landscape of expectations. KO&Co. will find their our answers in the fold of a slope, between flesh and wood, and in the findings of their own expecations.
