2008 Lifetime Achievement Award Recipients

Thara Memory, musician

A true treasure of the North West, Thara’s musical style spans classical and all jazz forms. A master teacher, trumpet player and composer his work has touched the lives of many listeners and especially his students. He has long been a strong advocate and provider of inspired, accessible music education. Trumpet player Farnell Newton will be presenting the award and brief musical tribute.

Isaka Shamsud-Din, painter

Isaka’s work is deeply charged with the African American experience beginning with his seminal work “Vanport” as well as several public murals through out the Northwest. In addition to being an artistic force, he has inspired many students, paving the way for young artists of color to be heard and recognized. His award will be presented by his former student and the IFCC DO North guest curator Mo.
